The Winter Solstice & Yule Celebration

I love the Solstices and Equinoxes. They’re a time for me to teach my littles a little bit of science, and are anchors in our year. We usually make seasonal food, make crowns and have a bonfire together. During the Winter Solstice, we have added few other traditions. This year, in honor of the longest night of the year, the littles were gifted a telescope and we watched the stars and planets during our fire.

We made all homemade ornaments this year for our tree, and I think that might become an annual tradition, because it turned out so beautiful. The Littles collected twigs, pinecones, leaves, and feathers and we turned them into ornaments. We also dried oranges and pears and made popcorn/cranberry garland and tied them up with my favorite twine.

Father Winter even gave us a tiny bit of snow, which is really, really rare here in Florida!

I hope your holiday was magical, no matter how your family chooses to celebrate.
